‘Thirteen’ Scores Its Second Radio Property

When it comes to PBS Member stations, there's perhaps none more well-known than WNET in New York. It has been an influential educational, non-commercial television organization since "Sesame Street" made its debut. In autumn 2019, Thirteen bought its first radio station. Now, WNET Corp. is acquiring its second FM property.

Meet Cogeco’s New Directors

They were listed as Director nominees in Cogeco's information circular dated November 14, 2022. Now, the Montréal-based company has announced that each of these nominees were elected as a Cogeco director during its annual shareholders meeting, held in-person on Friday.

Air1 Gains A Memphis-area FM, Thanks to Flinn

It's an FM licensed to Tunica, Miss., and reaches the Memphis market from the south. Until today, this Class C3 FM was the home of a rock and blues presentation put together by a longtime morning host in West Tennessee. Now, "96.1 DRAKE FM" is moving to an online-only model as the station's licensee has struck a deal with Educational Media Foundation to place its Worship Music Air1 network on the station.

No Joy South Of Atlanta, Thanks To Tornado

From Selma, Ala., through mid-Georgia, ferocious storms tore through the region, with twisters reported. One of those tornados has impacted a 40kw FM with a signal stretching from Atlanta's south to Macon, Ga., and Auburn, Ala. The station's broadcast tower was destroyed on Thursday, and the station's operators are actively seeking a solution.

Criminal Investigation Begins In N.C. AM’s Tower Destruction

On Tuesday, licensee Stu Epperson found himself suddenly suffering from a deep loss. The four towers used by the radio station his Truth Broadcasting Co. had purchased from Curtis Media Group at the end of 2021 had been vandalized. Today, those towers are fully destroyed, and law enforcement officials are actively seeking the culprit.

Since March 2016, he has served as a consultant to the radio industry from his longtime home base of Atlanta. Before launching his own business, he spent 16 1/2 years at Cumulus Media, most of that time as SVP of Corporate Engineering and IT. Now, Gary Kline is being mourned, as news of his passing surfaced on January 11.
