He was born in New York as Ronald Ferrazzuolo but was widely known under a different name for decades, thanks to his time at radio stations across the South and, more recently, at SiriusXM.
Ferrazzuolo, professionally known as Ron Parker, is now being mourned, as the programmer and air personality has passed away. He was 74 years old.
A 1975 University of Georgia graduate with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, Parker held roles such as Program Director and Music Director at a variety of stations. He was also known for his on-air shifts, and his resume includes stations such as WQXI-AM & FM in Atlanta, WLCY-AM in Tampa, and Miami’s WINZ “Zeta 4,” WHYI “Y-100” and “96X.” In Houston, he was heard on KKBQ-AM & FM and on KLDE-FM. In Phoenix, listeners heard Parker on KKFR “Power 92.”
Parker was also heard on WCBS-FM in New York; KFRC Radio in San Francisco; and on WLS-FM in Chicago. Most recently, national audiences could hear Parker host shows on SiriusXM’s ’60s and ’70s channels.
He was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2019.
In accordance with Ron’s wishes, a private interment will be held for immediate family.
I am saddened to hear about the news of Ron. I have listened to him on the radio every day on Sirius XM 70’s on 7 as I have had Sirius radio since 2014 and that is the only channel I listen to as that is my favorite decade of music. I am 73. I love all the DJ’s on the station. Ron was a great voice and I will miss him. I just heard the news as I heard Lisa Evans on the air give it. I love her as well. R.I.P. Ron. I had gone to broadcasting school in Atlanta in 1980 at the Columbia school of broadcasting and got my FCC license but never did pursue it. I was offered a job right after and did not take it and wonder if I should have.
