Radio and Television Transactions

Nestled between Mobile and Pensacola, Fla., is Orange Beach, Ala., a little known bucolic stretch of sand along the Gulf of Mexico. Here, a Class A FM station serves the town as "the voice of paradise." Soon, that voice will land in the hands of Marcus Carr, pending FCC approval.

In March 2022, Cameron Maxwell closed on his company's purchase of two AM and three FM stations serving the Bozeman, Mont., market from court-appointed receiver Richard J. Samson. The properties were once licensed to Reier Broadcasting Company and effectively ceased operations in June 2018 due to license renewal fee delinquency concerns. Now, Maxwell's company is further expanding with its acquisition of a property in Butte, Mont.

Should one turn on the radio in Clovis, N. Mex., a scan of the dial will undoubtedly land on "Big 101.5," a 100kw facility that reaches Portales, and over the state line into Texas. If "The High Plains Classic Rock" isn't desired, there are two other FMs and an AM owned by Rooney Moon Broadcasting that may be of interest. Soon, however, Rooney Moon will no longer be the owner of this quartet of radio properties.

As 2021 began, Francis Wood and his Colonial Broadcasting Co. agreed to sell Farmville, Va.-based WFLO-AM 870 & FM 95.7 to Educational Media Foundation. Now, EMF has decided to spin the AM associated with this transaction.

It's been an avid acquisitor of low-power television stations across the country, as it seeks to fill in coverage holes in the DMAs in which it owns full-power stations while building out a broadcast data footprint that stands ready for optimized monetization in the ATSC 3.0 age. Now, Gray Television is growing its LPTV stable again, this time in Wyoming.

The Guel family has become known across Washington legal circles as one that's sought many noncommercial broadcast facilities in recent years, as part of a plan to serve Spanish-speaking audiences with evangelical Christian fare. One licensee a family member leads hoped to add a brand-new noncommercial facility in New Mexico to the mix. But, that's now no longer happening.

As of today, it's a Class A FM on the banks of the Chowan River serving a rural portion of eastern North Carolina with classic Country music. Soon, that programming will likely change, as it has been sold to the licensee that controls GNN Radio.

He's been involved in numerous deals tied to low-power television stations in recent months. Now, Jeff Winemiller is securing an unbuilt property serving a city in the Palmetto State.

A proposed sale of a LPTV station had recently been submitted to the FCC for its approval. However, the Commission dismissed the application. The legal counsel who made the filing said that was an error, tied to problems associated with the Commission's e-Filing system. He's correct, and the deal is back to "pending" status.

A 5kw Class B AM and its FM translator serving the capital city of Arkansas are being spun. How much is Sima Birach earning from the sale of the facilities, and who is he selling them too? The answer involves a local Hyundai dealer who got into broadcasting two decades ago.

From late August 1983 through the summer of 1986, "Hitradio 93" KKHR served Los Angeles with Top 40 music. Today, the KKHR call letters belong to an Abilene, Tex., 50,000-watt FM that's in the news today because it's being sold — along with two siblings — to a local operation led by Rodney Amonett.

It's a 6kw FM serving an area south of Louisville, Ky. Soon, this station will no longer be the home of "KMO." That's because Newberry has agreed to sell the property. The buyer? Just like Tuesday's Eastern Washington deal, it involves the No. 2 licensee of FMs in the U.S.

At the end of last year, the Wheeler Family agreed to consolidate ownership of a 100kw FM radio station located in Grand Coulee, Wash., just south of the famed dam. Now, the family has decided to sell the property. The buyer? The second-largest licensee of FM stations in the U.S. is grabbing it.

It's built a reputation over the last quarter-century as a hub of listener-supported "Independent Music Radio," broadcasting to Charlottesville, Richmond, Lynchburg, Harrisonburg, Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Now, the parent of WNRN is adding an AM radio station with an FM translator.

King Forward Inc. in recent months has been the seller of low-powered TV stations across the South. Now, the licensee is at it again. The company led by John Kyle II is selling four properties in the region, and two in the Hoosier State.  There's also a California LPTV in the mix.
