In Iowa’s state capital of Des Moines, Pedro Zamora has established himself as the president of an entertainment firm and promoter of regional Mexican acts of interest to the region’s Spanish-speaking Hispanic population.
He’s also been the principal of Latin Broadcasting Corporation and its predecessor, the licensee of a 10kw Class C3 FM serving Des Moines with regional Mexican programming that includes the Nueva Network-syndicated Stephanie “Chiquibaby” Himonidis in evenings.
Soon, there’ll be a change at this radio station, as Zamora has approved its sale.
KDLS-FM “La Ley 105.5,” licensed to Perry, Iowa, is being spun by Latin Broadcasting Corp. to Trinity Communications Inc.
A $1.84 million purchase price was agreed upon, and a $50,000 deposit has been made to Trinity and is being held by John C. Trent, as escrow agent.
KDLS’s signal covers Des Moines from the northwest but is directional. As such, it does not cover Ames, Iowa, and fades before reaching Newton.
Trinity is led by Rick Ball, and is the owner of KWKY-AM 1150 in Des Moines, a Class B directional 2-pattern AM with 2,500 watts during daylight hours and 1kw at night, using 4 towers. Giving it FM coverage is K233BT at 94.5 MHz.
While K233BT is a formidable signal reaching all of Des Moines, the acquisition of KDLS greatly expands the reach of the market’s home for “Iowa Catholic Radio.”
ICR can also be heard on FM stations in Adel, Creston, Fairfield and Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Of Des Moines population of 751,900, some 44,100 identify themselves as Hispanic. However, KDLS does not appear in the publicly distributed Nielsen Audio ratings for Des Moines, indicating that KDLS is either a nonsubscriber or does not meet the threshold for placing in the market’s ratings.
