400-foot radio tower climber in danger

The York, PA Daily Record reports a person who climbed Citadel’s 400-foot radio tower in Springettsbury Township, PA might need medical help after getting a powerful dose of RF.

Sometime between 11/30 and 12/2, someone climbed the tower and tied a maroon bed sheet to the antenna. It looks like the person climbed WCAT’s tower. Hey, at least it was only 3,000 watts that irradiated the individual and not 50kW.

The [RF from the tower] can cause medical issues and internal injuries, said Springettsbury Township Police Lt. Scott Laird.

Of course, normally, the tower is taken out of service when maintenance is performed up there. Anyone with information is urged to call Springettsbury Township Police at 717-757-3525.
