NEW YORK — Red Apple Media has announced the hire of a Chief Technology Officer. Taking the role is a 50-year radio engineering veteran who brings “a wealth of information on improving facility coverage and value, all facets of radio station construction, and FCC rules and policies.”

Reporting to owner and CEO John Catsimatidis and President Chad López is Bert Goldman.

It’s a return home of sorts for Goldman, who was a Corporate VP of Engineering for ABC Radio, under The Walt Disney Company. In that role, he worked with WABC-AM when it was at 2 Penn Plaza, prior to its move to its current Midtown East locale.

“I’m eager to come home to 77WABC and join Red Apple Media as it enters its next growth phase,” said Goldman. “John has revived AM Talk Radio with big-name hosts and created renewed excitement for broadcast radio overall.”

Goldman has also held roles at the former Nationwide Communications and Shamrock Broadcasting. He has also been active in multiple industry organizations, including the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the National Radio Systems Committee (NRSC).

“As Red Apple Media continues to enlarge its footprint in radio, we recognized a need for an engineering specialist with insights that will bolster our growth strategy as we identify properties for our expansion,” Catsimatidis said. “Bert’s experience made him the perfect choice.”

López added, “Bert has the major market experience we were looking for to help us take Red Apple Media to the next level. He’s worked with some of the biggest broadcasting companies in the industry. He understands our goals and will help us get there.”

Red Apple Media’s holdings are comprised of WABC-AM in New York and WLIR-FM in Riverhead-Sag Harbor, N.Y. It is in the process of purchasing expanded-band AM WRCR, at 1700 kHz.
