Blacksun Swallows A Group of Spearman’s Stations

It’s a private equity group based in New York that placed its dollars in enterprises “supporting the future of technology.” This includes sectors such as media and entertainment. Now, this entity using rented workspaces at 45 Rockefeller Plaza is seeking the FCC’s approval to buy a group of Monte Spearman‘s radio stations.


Blacksun Private Equity Inc., an entity led by co-founder and CEO Atonn F. Muhammad and fellow co-founder and COO Nery Gomez, is agreeing to obtain the following properties from Spearman’s bankrupt High Plains Radio Network:

  • KEYB-FM in Altus, OK
  • KJOK-FM in Hollis, OK
  • KYBE-FM in Frederick, OK
  • WGVM-AM in Greenville, MS
  • WDMS-FM in Greenville, MS
  • KFFA-AM in Helena, AR
  • KFFA-FM in Helena, AR
  • KCKL-FM in Malakoff, TX
  • KLVQ-AM in Athens, TX
  • KTAT-AM in Frederick, OK
  • KVBV-AM in Buena Vista, CO

 

A $1.25 million purchase price has been agreed to, payable in full via wire transfer at closing. The agreement will see Blacksun assume HPRN’s tower leases with Delray Beach, Fla.-based Vertical Bridge. 

Serving as High Plains’ broker of record is Bill Whitley of Media Services Group. HPRN also used the consulting services of Jay Brentlinger of Broadcast Industry Group LLC.
