With the sale of several radio stations including WAMI-AM and WQBA-AM in Miami to Latino Media Network, a change in leadership in South Florida came for TelevisaUnivision‘s broadcast media properties. In April, the 26-year President/GM, Claudia Puig, shifted to the newly created role of SVP for State Government Affairs and Political Partner Solutions for the company led by CEO Wade Davis.
We now know who will be oversee the company’s radio and TV stations in one of the nation’s most important Hispanic markets.
Taking the role of President/GM for Univision Miami is Eric Garcia.
Garcia reports directly to recently promoted President of Local Media Jesus Lara and brings what TelevisaUnivision calls “extensive broadcast and media industry experience” to his new role.
Garcia is charged with overseeing the overall direction, strategy, and growth of WLTV-23, the company’s flagship Univision affiliate; UniMás affiliate WAMI-69; and TelevisaUnivision’s local radio stations, comprised of Spanish Contemporary WRTO “Mix 98.3” and Spanish Adult Contemporary WLVE-FM “107.5 Amor.”
Garcia joined Univision in 2018, as Director of Audio Sales for the company’s WXNY “X96.3” in New York. He most recently served as VP of Multiplatform Sales in New York and as Station Manager for TelevisaUnivision’s broadcast television properties in Washington, D.C., and in Philadelphia.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Eric to our team in Miami,” said Lara. “He understands the importance of generating new ideas, embracing diversity, and maximizing our brands and resources to achieve market leadership. We are confident that under Eric’s guidance, Univision Miami will continue to thrive, grow and deliver exceptional value to our audience and our partners.”
Garcia commented, “I am truly honored to lead the talented team at Univision Miami. At Univision, we are driven by a powerful mission to inform, empower, and entertain our community. I am deeply passionate about this mission and my greatest joy lies in leading, building, and creating innovative revenue streams for Univision’s multi-media brands and platforms. Together, we will set higher standards within our core and drive excellence within the media and entertainment industry.”
Before joining TelevisaUnivision, Garcia spent nearly 14 years at its main rival in broadcast radio, Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS). There, he was VP/GM of WSKQ-FM “Mega 97.9” and WPAT-FM “93.1 Amor” in New York, rising from sales roles at the stations. He began his career in Hispanic radio in 2002 as an account representative in New York for Interep.
