‘FOX 5’ In Las Vegas Takes A Cue From Bonneville

When Bonneville International Corp. owned a Top 40 simulcast serving Washington, D.C., in September 2001 it made headlines by inking a two-year sponsorship deal with the world’s biggest QSR. The result: the “McDonald’s Morning Drive” on WWVZ & WWZZ “Z104.” Overseas, “The Pepsi Chart” aired from 1993-2002 on U.K. commercial Top 40 radio stations.

Now, in a bit of a first, Gray Media has signed on a single sponsor for a newscast on its FOX affiliate serving Southern Nevada.

Starting Monday (11/11), the 7pm newscast on KVVU-5 in Las Vegas will air with limited commercial interruption. This will provide viewers with more news and features, and less advertiser announcements. It’s thanks to a partnership with Ed Bernstein Injury Lawyers.

“We are beyond excited about this partnership and what it will do for our FOX5 viewers,”
said KVVU VP/GM Michael Korr. “Working with Ed Bernstein Injury Lawyers to bring news to our local viewers with limited commercials in this landmark television experience is an amazing feat that came to fruition at just the right time.”

The legal house has been a sponsor of KVVU’s closed-captioning for more than a decade. “An opportunity to partner with FOX5 on a new venture that will bring more news and information to our local residents is something we can get behind,” said Edward M. Bernstein. “And we want to support anything beneficial to our community and its members.”

KVVU was acquired by Gray through its merger with Meredith Local Media.
