For some 25 years, Andrés Cantor has sought to attract Spanish-language radio listeners who can’t miss a minute of FIFA World Cup action by investing a significant amount of money in the rights to the biggest sports tournament on the planet. Now, the company created to support the World Cup action is welcoming a Chief Digital Officer.
Joining Miami-based Fútbol de Primera is Juan Pablo Convers.
He is charged with spearheading what FDP calls its “digital transformation,” shifting its business model beyond its 80 U.S. radio station affiliates.
This will likely see FDP deliver live broadcasts, expert analysis, and original content to a dedicated and growing global audience online, via digital platforms.
“As the world prepares for next year’s World Cup—the centerpiece of global sports and culture—FDP is positioned at the forefront of soccer’s digital evolution,” Fútbol de Primera notes. “Convers will lead the development of new digital platforms and communities, leveraging social media, podcasts, and short-form content to engage fans and reshape the soccer experience for millions worldwide.”
Convers was previously with TelevisaUnivision, and until August 2024 was SVP/Head of Content for the “Core Digital” assets in both Mexico and the U.S. Prior to January 2022, he was Univision Communications’ SVP of Digital Content and Editorial Operations. Convers joined Univision in 2016 as Senior Director of Digital, Sports and eSports Business Development.
“We are excited to welcome Juan Pablo Convers to Fútbol de Primera,” said Cantor, who is Chairman of FDP. “Juan Pablo’s innovative vision and deep understanding of the digital landscape will be instrumental as we elevate our digital footprint in this landmark World Cup year. His leadership will help us connect more powerfully with our passionate soccer audience and create new opportunities across our digital platforms.”
Convers added, “Joining Fútbol de Primera at such a pivotal time is a tremendous opportunity. I am committed to driving innovation that brings fans closer to the sport they love through immersive digital experiences.”
Before joining Univision, Convers was based in Colombia, where he handled advertising business development for El Tiempo, a major news media brand in Bogota. He began his career in 1994 as an Account Executive for Atenas BBDO.
