A Class C1 FM with a booming signal over the Texas Gulf Coast, known to Spanish speakers as “the hot one,” is about to go up in flames. That’s because Educational Media Foundation has closed on its purchase of this facility.
At the same time, EMF — now the No. 2 licensee of radio stations in the U.S., behind iHeartMedia — has completed its acquisition of a Class A FM serving a portion of the Peachtree State with Classic Rock as “The Ridge.”
Both transactions saw Media Services Group serve as the exclusive broker.
In the first, initially filed with the Commission on Dec. 20, TTA Broadcasting has formally parted ways with WATG-FM 95.7 “The Ridge.” EMF paid $200,000 for the facility, a Class A licensed to Trion, Ga.
The deal was made possible with the assistance of Eddie Esserman of Media Services Group, who represented TTA in the transaction. Serving as legal counsel for EMF is Paige Fronabarger of Wilkinson Barker Knauer. TTA’s counsel in the sale of WATG is Dennis J. Kelly, Esq. The transaction includes WATG’s lease for its transmitter site at Taylor’s Ridge, Mack White Gap in Chattooga County, Ga.
On Dec. 21, EMF emerged as the buyer of Class C1 KMJR-FM 98.3 “La Caliente” in Odem, Tex., serving the Corpus Christi market.
To get EMF in the Corpus Christi market, it is paying Tejas $432,000 for KMJR. Serving as the exclusive brokers in this transaction, representing Tejas, are Bill Whitely of the Dallas office and George Reed of the Jacksonville office of Media Services Group.
Tejas is led by Susan Lucchesi-Fields.
