The Biggest Radio Transaction In Three Years Has Closed

On March 25, the single-largest transaction to involve AM and FM radio stations (until the Emmis/Indianapolis deal announced June 13), was agreed to by the buyer and seller. This saw the pending end, pending FCC approval, of a small- to-midsize market radio, digital marketing and events company serving markets in the western U.S. The deal, which saw Kalil & Co. serve as the exclusive broker, representing the seller, has now closed.

The purchase price was disclosed.

Central Calif. Radio Station Owner Dies In Paragliding Accident

The owner of Knight Broadcasting, which owns and operates three radio stations in the Santa Ynez Valley Wine Region of northern Santa Barbara County, was killed in a paragliding accident. The incident occurred on Wednesday, with staff notified of Shawn Knight's passing early Thursday.

RMLC Files Petition for Rate Determination Against ASCAP, BMI

The Radio Music License Committee on Wednesday filed a petition for the determination of reasonable license fees against two of the biggest AM and FM royalty payment recipients in a consolidated proceeding before a single judge in a New York Federal District Court. ASCAP and BMI are hardly pleased by RMLC's action.

FCC Rescinds License Grant, Killing A FM Translator

Gulfport, Miss., is the home of an FM translator its licensee hoped would serve this coastal city along the Gulf of Mexico. There's just one issue — the facility was built, it seems, outside the parameters of what the licensee was authorized to do. As such, Audio Division Chief Al Shuldiner has rescinded the grant for the FM translator, which sought more time to remain silent as it figured out what to do to get on the air permanently.
