Was A DFW Air Personality Fired For His Race?

In March 2015, Cumulus Media made a change in afternoons at one of its Dallas-Fort Worth FMs by hiring a nighttime personality previously with KCAQ-FM 104.7 in Oxnard-Ventura, Calif., who had made a name for himself with his “Block Party.”

Today, the air talent known to listeners as Crisco Kidd — legally known as Josh Carmona — is no longer a part of the air staff at KLIF-FM “Hot 93.3” in Dallas. He says he was wrongfully terminated because of his race. Cumulus dismisses those claims.

According to Law360, attorneys representing Cumulus told a Texas federal judge on Nov. 17 that the majority of the claims brought against the company by Carmona should be dismissed by the court.

Cumulus argues that Carmona failed to raise claims of unlawful termination due to racial prejudice with the EEOC prior to filing a lawsuit against the nation’s No. 2 radio broadcasting company by number of stations.

The case is presently ongoing.

The Crisco Kidd Block Party came to Hot 93.3 following Carmona’s previous stints on the air in California’s Central Coast, and at stations in Albuquerque and KRTX-FM 100.7 in Houston. He is a native of Texas and is a survivor of testicular cancer.

His program can now be heard in afternoon drive on Riviera Broadcasting’s KKFR-FM “Power 98.3 & 96.1” in Phoenix.
