Univision Radio to add stations to iHeartRadio

0

Later this year, Univision Radio fans will be able to listen to some of Univision’s most popular Hispanic radio personalities including Omar & Argelia, Dra. Isabel, Luis Jiménez, Piolín, Javier Romero and others on Clear Channel’s new iHeartRadio platform

Univision Radio will extend 70 radio stations’ programming, including streaming of 45 stations to iHeartRadio wherever it is available, including the Web, mobile and auto.

The partnership marks the first third-party distribution relationship for iHeartRadio, and enables its platform to better reach an important listening audience. Clear Channel released the new iHeartRadio 9/23 at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.

The top Univision personalities that will be featured, along with the station streams:
Omar & Argelia, No. 1 rated morning radio show in LA
Dra. Isabel, the angel of the airwaves
Piolín, one of the most popular morning radio personalities in the country
Luis Jiménez, renown host of “The Luis Jiménez Show”
Raul Brindis (y Pepito), host of Houston’s top-rated Latino morning show
Javier Romero, the king of Miami Latino morning radio

Formats will include:
Adult Contemporary – Romántica, ballads, international pop hits and Top 40 hits
Regional Mexican – Banda, ranchera, mariachi and norteña
Tropical – Latin rhythmic music from the Caribbean, including salsa, merengue and reggaeton
Tejano – A cross between contemporary rock, ranchera and country
Spanish rhythmic and Spanish contemporary.

There is little market overlap with Clear Channel’s Spanish-language stations, below:

Tucson, AZ

KBFP-FM
Bakersfield, CA

KBFP-AM
Bakersfield, CA

KPRC-FM
Monterey / Salinas, CA

KFNY-AM
Riverside/San Bernardino, CA

WRUM-FM
Orlando, FL

WRLX-FM
West Palm Beach / Ft. Pierce, FL

WNUA-FM
Chicago, IL

WKOX-AM
Boston, MA

WUBA-AM
Philadelphia, PA

KUNO-AM
Corpus Christi, TX

XHEPR-FM
El Paso, TX

RBR-TVBR observation: At first one would ask why Clear Channel is adding a competitor’s radio stations to its streaming app. But a closer look reveals there isn’t much overlap at all, and the goal may be to just attract more Hispanic listeners to iHeartRadio. The list above shows Clear Channel’s Spanish-language stations. Note they do not overlap in any Univision markets except for Chicago and El Paso.

Plus the goal for Clear Channel/iHeart: Building its Comscore ranking. With that score it then gets into the major ad dollar arena.
