Nearly two weeks after Salem Media Group went east of the Colorado River to snag a translator for one San Diego AM, it’s doing it again.
This time, it is trucking an unbuilt facility to America’s Finest City from an Arizona peak just outside of Blythe, Calif.
Meanwhile, Educational Media Foundation has parted ways with a translator for a religious AM serving the Austin market.
These are the top deals discussed in RBR + TVBR’s TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Thursday, October 20.
PRAISE FOR AN FM ADDITION
Salem’s KPRZ-AM 1210, a San Marcos-Poway, Calif.-licensed Christian Talk & Teaching station known as “K-Praise,” has gained an FM home through the AM Revitalization Act.
In a deal totaling $20,000, unbuilt K279CM in Quartzsite, Ariz., is being transferred to Salem subsidiary New Inspiration Broadcasting Co. from Aircraft Storage Solutions.
The translator will be relocated to the San Diego market, following the filing of a minor modification application.
The acquisition of the Quartzsite translator follows the Oct. 7 announcement that New Inspiration is acquiring unbuilt FM translator K260CG, presently located in Mojave Valley, Ariz., for $20,000 from Rick Murphy – who just happens to be the individual behind Aircraft Storage Solutions.
That translator is being used to bring Salem’s conservative News/Talk KCBQ-AM 1170 in San Diego an FM companion signal.
EMF PARTS WAYS WITH TEXAS TRANSLATOR
Educational Media Foundation has agreed to sell translator K254BL, at 101.1 in the east side of Austin, Texas, to GLG Media for $30,000.
However, the terms of the deal call for reimbursement of up to $10,000 for expenses incurred in changing the translator’s tower to a non-directional antenna.
K254BL must not interfere with San Antonio-market Class C1 KONO-FM 101.1, located to the southwest in Helotes, Texas. KONO’s signal extends to San Marcos.
K254BL is used to rebroadcast Christian Talk KTXW-AM 1120 “The Bridge,” licensed to Manor, Texas, just northwest of downtown Austin. KTXW has a highly directional two-pattern signal with 5.6kw during the day and just 155 watts at night from a three-tower array.
KTXW’s nighttime service must be reduced to protect Class A 50kw clear channel KMOX in St. Louis.
REFUGE SELLS TRANSLATOR AFTER BIG UPGRADE
Refuge Media Group has agreed to sell translator W264CX in Virginia, Minn., to Q Media Properties for $40,000. A 10% deposit to escrow agent and broker Phoenix Media Group has already been made by Q Media, and now it will agree to pay $20,000 at closing and the remaining $16,000 some six months after closing. Phoenix will retain the deposit as its broker fee.
Q Media, led by Alan Quarnstrom, is using the translator as an FM companion to Class D non-directional WCMP-AM 1350 in Virginia, Minn. With one tower, WCMP-AM has 1kw day and just 52 watts at night.
The acquisition follows the Sept. 16 announcement that Red Rock Radio Corp. is selling WCMP-AM & FM to Quarnstrom’s Q Media Properties.
