According to Adweek, among recent NFL moves, the thing advertisers and football fans should focus on should not be the no-blackout policy in place for 2015. It’s the decision to make a game available in its entirely on the internet.
The streamed game will be the London UK matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Blackouts have certainly been annoying to local fans and the legislators who represent them, but they have been increasingly rare, especially compared to way back when the policy was first adopted.
There has been a reluctance to take games online, however, possibly for fear of damaging lucrative broadcast rights with television, cable and satellite companies.
However, the streamed game offers possibilities and potential new fans from younger demos.
At this point, observers consider it to be an experimental move.
