The sole owner of a small group of radio stations in the Volunteer State has died. This has led to a filing with the FCC seeking its approval of the transfer of the properties’ licenses to the executor of the late owner’s estate.
The June 2 death of Randall Sliger, owner and operator of WLAR-AM & WJSQ-FM in Athens, Tenn., and WYGO-FM and W295DF in Madisonville, Tenn., was announced via the Athens stations’ Facebook page.
“He was a beloved voice in our community as well as a dearly loved friend for many decades both on air and off,” station staff said of Sliger, who was 57 years old. “His passion for broadcasting and dedication to local voices during his lifetime have left an indelible mark on our community.”
For those in McMinn County, Tenn., Sliger was a highly familiar voice and public figure, operating WJSQ alongside his father, Jim Sliger. Per Randall Sliger’s will, Allen Carter as Executor will become the sole shareholder of the stations.
WYGO is licensed to Sliger-controlled Major Broadcasting Corp., with a separate filing with the FCC representing this license transfer request.
Serving as the legal counsel for this matter is Mark Denbo of Smithwick & Belendiuk.
