Curious as to the power and influence of digital streaming shows in the U.S. and on a global level?

The newly released Global SVOD TV Demand Report from Parrot Analytics is chock full of competitive data and intelligence that could help shape the content on your over-the-air broadcast outlets as well as your social media and OTT streams.

A 55 page in-depth whitepaper from Parrot takes a comprehensive look at global television demand trends across 10 markets including the United States and Canada in 2018.

Specifically, Parrot analyzes the top 20 digital streaming shows in Austria, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Malaysia, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, and the United States, respectively — along with five additional streaming TV titles of interest for each territory.

Parrot also addresses how local market demand for these titles changed over the course of the first quarter of 2018, and how audiences’ TV series consumption by device varies in the 10 markets examined, including a breakdown of age and gender.

Further, Parrot’s study provides a TV industry update for Q2 detailing important events, with a focus on OTT.

There’s also an overview of all the new streaming series that were released in the first quarter of 2018.

Netflix‘s international sensation 13 Reasons Why returned for its second season on May 18, topping the charts for eight of the 10 markets evaluated.

The No. 2 in-demand OTT-delivered series was Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, in its second season.

Looking specifically at the U.S., the nation has one of the highest reported rates of Smart TV usage, at 21%.

And, while most devices were relatively closely split across gender, watching “TV with Antenna Channels” skewed more male (64% Male vs. 36% Female).

Interestingly, the U.S. has one of the most even distribution across the age brackets, suggesting audiences across all ages are engaging with television content across most devices.

Further, the 18-24 year-old bracket reported a tiny incidence of watching TV content on a regular TV — showing that when they do watch on a TV screen it is most likely a Smart TV.

What are the top digital original series in the U.S.? Look no further than Netflix.

The dominance is stunning.

What is also stunning is the absence of Amazon Video, which strives to be a major competitor to Netflix.

How does this audience compare to the TV shows on your broadcast stations?

Meanwhile, YouTube Premium has a hit with The Karate Kid-themed Cobra Kai series, while CBS All Access is off to a strong start with Star Trek: Discovery and The Good Fight.

Lastly, La Casa de Papel — the No. 1 non-English series ever for Netflix — is a runaway hit in Germany, Portugal and Colombia, in addition to the U.S.
