A Class C3 FM audible in Pueblo and much of Colorado Springs and its 1kw Class C AM sibling won’t be ringing in the New Year with listeners. According to a post made to the FM’s Facebook page, both stations are shutting down on January 1, 2025.
Royal Gorge Broadcasting is calling it quits for KRLN-AM 1400 in Cañon City, Colo., and its sibling KSTY-FM “Star Country 104.5.”
The social media post referenced the stations’ owners in Nebraska as making the choice to close down “our beloved radio stations.” The note continued, “The staff here at Star Country and KRLN are grateful for the years of dedication from all of our amazing clients who have made our local radio possible. To our listeners, we thank you for dedicating that radio dial to our stations for what seems like a lifetime. Star Country and KRLN are staples in this community, and it will forever be a part of each and every one of our lives. We cannot thank you enough, and we are sorry to be bringing this news. The staff has tried so hard for so long to make changes and keep things going and up to date with the times, knowing if we didn’t, this would happen. The changes in 2025 will definitely be just that, but with change comes new opportunities.”
Some 17 years ago, KSTY had a license for an FM Booster to allow it to serve Colorado Springs. Today that license is cancelled, as KSTY and KRLN focused on Southern Rocky Mountain communities along the U.S. 50 corridor.
Royal Gorge is represented by Francisco Montero of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth.
It was not immediately clear as to why Royal Gorge is shutting down the two stations in one week.
