Sirius XM Sends Stern To Inaugurate SoBe Studios

Automotive sales have yet to fully recover from the pandemic. Audio consumers are becoming more frugal. “We are seeing a choppy marketplace not dissimilar to how we exited Q4 in the month of January,” CFO Sean Sullivan said during the company’s year-end and fourth quarter 2022 earnings call.

Despite the headwinds, Sirius XM is sailing to South Beach with a big splash, sending Howard Stern down from New York to officially open its new Collins Avenue studios, steps away from all of the Miami action.

Stern, who has taken heat in recent years for his short work week and lengthy summertime absences, will bring The Howard Stern Show to Miami Beach for live shows airing from SiriusXM’s new broadcast complex at 2340 Collins Avenue, adjacent to the Gates Hotel and across from the beachfront 1 Hotel South Beach and STK Steakhouse.

Stern will be present from May 1-3. And, in his 18 years on Sirius XM and, prior to that, working for Mel Karmazin, he never hosted a show from South Florida.

Stern’s presence in Miami Beach will see “special music and celebrity guests” come on the show.

That said, there’s more to the launch of Sirius XM’s Miami Beach hub — including the long-awaited launch of Hits Uno, a Spanish Contemporary Pop channel that fills a significant void in its Latin music options. Available on car receivers as Channel 321, Hits Uno takes a Top 40 turn by focusing on acts such as Bad Bunny, Becky G, Bizarrap, Camilo, Karol G, Maluma, Rauw Alejandro, Rosalía, and Sebastian Yatra.

Meanwhile, entertainers Andy Cohen, Bailey Zimmerman, John Summit, Jon Bon Jovi, Jonas Brothers, and others are scheduled to appear for live broadcasts across other Sirius XM channels.

SiriusXM Miami features a 50-seat performance space and several artist-first radio and recording studios, in addition to office space, and is located in Starwood Capital’s newly opened Miami Beach headquarters.

“Miami is an incredibly rich center for music and entertainment,” said Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s President and Chief Content Officer. “SiriusXM Miami will capture the city’s unique culture and character and bring it to audiences across North America, as we’ve proudly done from our existing studios in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and Washington, D.C. We’re thrilled to have Howard kick things off in the biggest way with three exceptional days of shows, followed by a star-studded lineup of programming that showcases the broad array of content we offer, including the diverse and vibrant music emanating from the Latinx community. This is a fitting debut for what’s to come from Miami, and we’re very excited to get started.”

Sirius XM Confirms A Significant Reduction In Force
A memo distributed by the CEO of Sirius XM has shed light on a large round of layoffs the nation’s subscription-based satellite radio company has decided to undertake. The job cuts come as Sirius XM’s stock flirts with prices last seen in October 2016.

The attention being given to Sirius XM’s Miami home comes after Audacy Corp., then-known as Entercom, in early 2017 committed to a trendy, consolidated facility built in one of Miami’s “uptown” neighborhoods, Little River. The new home, “The Citadel,” was built with 7,500 more square feet than its previous facility.

While the Audacy Miami home is arguably in an area of Miami that is among the more popular, up-and-coming zones, Sirius XM’s center is in the heart of a tourist mecca, easily accessible to every major resort and venues including Fillmore Miami Beach.
