Radio Punjabi’s Atlanta AM Home Finds New ‘Light’

Twenty-nine months ago, “the only radio network covering the South Asian population” acquired its first property east of the Mississippi River.

Now, a change is in the air, one that will bring new “Light” to the AM, putting an end to Radio Punjabi on that facility.

Radio Spice LLC, the Canadian/U.S. partnership with 50% ownership held by California-based Gursharan Singh Thind, with 20% ownership by Surrey, British Columbia-based Sukhdev Singh Dhillon and the remaining ownership is held by Calfornia-based Sharanjit Kaur, is selling WTZA-AM 1010 in Atlanta.

However, Radio Spice is not including FM translator W227DN at 93.3 MHz in Norcross, Ga., which simulcasts WTZA, in the deal.

The buyer is Light Media Holdings, operator of the inspirational religious Light Media Network.

Light Media Holdings will make Class D WTZA its second property in the region, but the first to truly cover the Atlanta metropolitan area. At present, LMH is the owner/operator of WYKG-AM 1430 in Covington, Ga., to the southeast of downtown Atlanta. It uses an FM translator at 105.5 MHz to reach audiences as “The King,” and that facility’s focus has been on the Conyers, Ga., area.

Thus, WTZA represents a big growth opportunity for LMH, which is paying $75,000 for the station.

Griffin Media Partners served as the seller’s broker in this transaction.

Signing off on the sale of WTZA is Dhillon. Radio Spice acquired WTZA and W227DN from K&Z Broadcasting in July 2020, paying $300,000.

Radio Punjabi will continue to own and operate facilities in Seattle, Fresno, Sacramento, and Bakersfield.
