DALLAS — The nation’s largest broadcast television group by station count has inked a “comprehensive multi-year agreement” that sees all of its NBC Television Network affiliations stay in place.
Nexstar Media Group announced the fresh deal with NBCUniversal early Wednesday. It ensures stations in 33 DMAs — with 29 stations owned by Nexstar — keeping their affiliation status.
Of the 33 stations, Nexstar handles affiliation agreements for three stations owned by variable interest company Mission Broadcasting, and one station owned by White Knight Broadcasting, which some critics have called a “sidecar” operation allowing Nexstar to surpass the FCC’s national ownership cap. With Brendan Carr soon to become FCC Chairman, ownership limits are expected to loosen.
Financial terms of the new affiliation deal were not disclosed.
Nexstar’s biggest market where it has an NBC affiliate is Tampa-St. Petersburg, which includes the cities of Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakeland, Winter Haven and Sebring. There, it owns WFLA-8, a former Media General property.
Other key stations include KXAN-36 in Austin; WCMH-4 in Columbus, Ohio; WAVY-10 in Norfolk; KFOR-4 in Oklahoma City; and KSEE-24 in Fresno-Merced.
