NBC Friday: "Grimm" up 14%; "Dateline" up 36%

Friday Primetime Results: At 8 p.m. ET, “Who Do You Think You Are?” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) equaled NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the time period, excluding sports, in 10 months (since the “Who Do You Think You Are?” season finale April 8, 2011).  This week’s “Who Do You Think You Are?”  maintained the 18-49 rating of last week’s season premiere and retained 91 percent of last week’s 6.1 million viewers overall, making this NBC’s second biggest total-viewer result in the time slot so far this season. 
 
At 9 p.m. ET, “Grimm” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall) delivered week-to-week gains of 14 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.6 from a 1.4) and 10 percent in total viewers (5.242 million vs. 4.787 million).  In the time period, “Grimm” ranked #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers and #1 in men 18-49 and men 25-54.  “Grimm” built on its 18-49 lead-in by 33 percent.  Note that on average this season, “Grimm” originals have been adding 59 percent to their next-day “live plus same day” 18-49 rating when Nielsen reports additional time-shifted viewing in “live plus seven day” ratings.


At 10 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” (1.5/4 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) grew week to week by 36 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.5 rating from a 1.1), 33 percent in adults 25-54 (2.0 vs. 1.5) and 23 percent or 1.1 million persons in total viewers (5.783 million vs. 4.701 million).  In the time period, “Dateline” is #2 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers.  “Dateline” grew from its first half-hour to its second by 14 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.6 from a 1.4), 17 percent in adults 25-54 (2.1 vs. 1.8) and 18 percent in total viewers (5.6 million vs. 4.8 million). 
 
In late-night metered-market households Friday night:
In Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, household results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 3.1/7; CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” 2.7/6; and ABC’s combo of “Nightline,” 3.3/7; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 1.5/4. 
 
In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 1.0/4; “Late Show,” 0.6/3; “Nightline,” 0.9/4; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 0.5/2.
 
At 12:35 a.m., “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.8/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (1.4/4).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Late Night” (0.7/4 in 18-49) topped “Late Late Show” (0.4/2).
 
At 1:35 a.m., “Last Call with Carson Daly” averaged a 1.1/4 in metered-market households and a 0.5/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
