WASHINGTON, D.C. — Curtis LeGeyt and Grant Spellmeyer have very little in common when it comes to drafting legislation designed to ensure the future viability of over-the-air television. For NAB head LeGeyt, extending the current retransmission consent scheme to virtual MVPDs — even as some lament that it is broken and much-publicized “blackouts” involving Nexstar Media Group and Hearst Television remain unresolved — is desired. Spellmeyer, in his role as President/CEO of pro-small and independent MVPD lobbying group ACA Connects, would rather see retrans rules erased.
Both will have a chance to share their views on the state of the video marketplace at House of Representatives hearing on Wednesday afternoon, as will the co-founder and CEO of sports-first vMVPD FuboTV and, additionally, the Senior Policy Counsel for Consumer Reports.
