Manning Adds In Frederick With ‘Gamut’ FM Translator

It’s been the lone primary FM home for “The Gamut,” the experimental HD Radio-only digital AM radio station offering an eclectic mix of music curated by Hubbard Broadcasting‘s Washington, D.C. cluster Senior Broadcast Engineer, Dave Kolesar.

Soon, there will no longer be an FM home, making WWFD-AM 820 the only place once can listen to “The Gamut.” Why? Hubbard is selling the FM translator serving Frederick that’s rebroadcast WWFD. And, the buyer is a “Key” local broadcaster.

W232DG at 94.3 MHz is being sold by Hubbard to Manning Broadcasting.

That’s the operator of Hot Adult Contemporary WAFY “Key 103” in Frederick, a top-rated choice for radio listeners in the “270 Corridor” due northwest of the Nation’s Capital. It is also the company that owns Class B WWEG “Eagle 106.9,” the Classic Hits station serving Frederick and Hagerstown with a signal reaching Chambersburg, Pa.; Leesburg, Va.; and much of Montgomery County, Md.

Upon closing, W232DG will join a group of five FM translators including W292FR and W255CP in Frederick.

And, Manning is paying $475,000 to acquire W232DG. A $9,500 escrow deposit has been made and is being held in Truist Bank.

Manning will use the translator as a rebroadcast partner for programming originating on WWEG.

For “The Gamut,” AM 820 and the HD3 signals for the members of the WTOP Network, in Frederick at 103.9 MHz, remain in place.
