It’s a SaaS video platform used by broadcasters and digital publishers. And, it has just agreed to purchase a provider of subscription management and identity management technology for an undisclosed price.

Acquiring InPlayer is JW Player, and it is an acquisition that JW Player believes will broaden its end-to-end video platform capabilities. In particular, the goal is to help broadcasters and other video-driven businesses to more easily monetize their subscription-based business.

The acquisition by JW Player, which in June 2021 raised $100 million from LLR Partners to build subscription and other monetization tools as part of its end-to-end video platform, “demonstrates JW Player’s ability to execute against its mission of building the best video platform for helping their customers better monetize video content,” JW said.

Dave Otten, JW Player’s co-founder and CEO, commented, “Today is an important step in further differentiating JW Player’s video monetization capabilities from that of other video platforms. With the acquisition of InPlayer, we are now able to combine their best-in-class subscription management, payments, and identity management capabilities with our market-leading advertising enablement capabilities.”

Jeroen Wijering, Chief Product Officer and JW Player’s other co-founder, added, “I’m thrilled about this acquisition as it sets the foundation for taking JW Player’s video platform and expanding it from the industry’s leading AVOD platform to also include a host of new capabilities for integrated SVOD and TVOD,” said  “InPlayer’s identity management technology will also provide in-depth audience insights and secure access to video content.”

JW Player launched in 2004 and is headquartered in New York, with offices in London and in Eindhoven, Holland.
