Illinois Broadcasters Foundation launches new scholarship program

Members of the Illinois Broadcasters Association (IBA) are being urged to create local scholarships for students pursuing an education for a broadcasting career. To that end, the Illinois Broadcasters Foundation (IBF) is offering matching funds.

The deal is that the IBF will match up to $500 of an IBA-member station scholarship designed specifically for graduating high school seniors pursuing a major in a broadcast related field.  Students applying for the scholarship must be academically eligible and accepted by an Illinois university or community college. The IBF has committed up to $100,000 for the scholarship program for the 2012-2013 academic year.

“I can’t think of a better use of IBF funds.  Bottom line: we’re positively impacting the lives of tomorrow’s broadcasters,” said Illinois Broadcasters Foundation Chairman Russ Withers, President of Withers Broadcasting.

Additional information and applications are available on the IBA website.

RBR-TVBR observation: Even if you’re not in Illinois this is a great idea. What great community relations to offer a scholarship to a local high school student graduating this spring and heading to college. They might even end up working for you down the road. And if you are in Illinois (and an IBA member) your 500 bucks becomes a thousand.
