She served as the first General Manager of a television station with call letters honoring Katharine Meyer Graham and also led the sales teams for broadcast TV stations in Hartford and in Houston.

Now, many across the television industry are paying tribute to Kathleen Keefe, who has died at the age of 68.

Keefe passed away in her sleep on May 1 at her Roxbury, Conn., home. A New Haven native, she would become General Sales Manager of WFSB-3 in Hartford under Post-Newsweek. A station trade would land Keefe in Orlando in early 1998, where she took the top post at the CBS affiliate that became WKMG-6.

Her resumé also includes a stint as GSM of KPRC-2, a Graham Media Group company that has been tied to the Graham family through the former Washington Post Media Group for 30 years.

“More important than her extraordinary career in broadcasting was her absolute devotion to her extended family, many close friends, and especially her precious nieces and nephews,” an obituary notice from Beecher & Bennett Funeral Service notes. “Kathleen was everyone’s favorite aunt, and the matriarch of the Keefe family.”

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday at Saint Paul VI Parish-St. Rita Campus in Hamden, Conn., followed by internment at All Saints Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Friends of the Roxbury Library, P.O. Box 74, Roxbury, Conn., 06783, www.minormemoriallibrary.org.
