On a national level, Capitol Broadcasting Company‘s Raleigh duo, comprised of NBC affiliate WRAL-5 and FOX affiliate WRAZ-50, are known for their roles as pioneers in the rollout of NEXTGEN TV in the U.S.
Now, they have a new Station Manager, and she couldn’t be more excited about her new role.
Earning the position is Heather Gray. “I can’t even type it without smiling,” she said Wednesday on LinkedIn, where news of her promotion was first shared. “I am so proud to help lead and serve these stations. Our company and the people that make up my “work family” are beyond best of class — they are innovators with heart. They work to serve our community in a way that is unmatched. They show up to do the right thing. Thank you to every mentor, supporter, fellow team member and even every ‘critical feedback’ giver.”
Among those offering congratulatory words is Brian Maloney, the VP of Radio for Capitol Broadcasting. “Congrats to you! So deserving!,” he said.

Gray previously served as Station Manager of WILM-LD 10, an unaffiliated television station serving Wilmington, N.C., that is a sibling of WRAL & WRAZ. There, she led and managed programming since June 2020. However, she concurrently served as WRAL & WRAZ Brand Director, a role she held since September 2018.
Additionally, Gray was Creative Services Director for WRAL & WRAZ, a position she held from October 2017-February 2019.
Gray arrived in Raleigh-Durham following a nearly 7-year run at NBC affiliate KPNX-12 in Phoenix. There, she served as Director of Programming and Marketing.
Gray’s career began in 1995 at Pappas Broadcasting, which owned what is now KMAX-31 (then KPWB) in Sacramento. There, she was Newscast and Technical Director for “Good Day Sacramento.”
