On March 13, 1938, CBS introduced the first program to feature news correspondents stations around the globe, all reporting for one radio broadcast. That inaugural broadcast was anchored by Robert Trout and saw the debut of revered journalist Edward R. Murrow offer a report from Vienna on the invasion of Austria by Nazi Germany.
Today, the World News Roundup is preparing to mark its 85th anniversary, with special programming across Monday to celebrate the longest-running news broadcast in the U.S.
The Roundup airs on some 156 affiliates across the U.S. and on SiriusXM Channel 124, P.O.T.U.S. Steve Kathan anchors the program today, while the “Late Edition” sees Jennifer Keiper at the helm.
As part of the anniversary celebration, CBS News Audio is launching a new CBS News Roundup podcast, which combines broadcasts of Kaleidoscope and each “Roundup”-branded report.
CBS will also release a remastered World News Roundup broadcast from 1938 — a program considered by many to serve as the birth of broadcast journalism.
CBS News Radio is part of CBS Audio and is distributed by Skyview Networks.
