On the "big island" of Hawai'i, there are two metropolitan areas: Kailua-Kona and Hilo. It is in the latter city that an AM radio station has served listeners since Christmas Day 1984.  Today, it is a simulcast of an FM that, like many, uses a Hilo-based and Kona-based MHz signal to cover all of Hawai'i. Soon, however, that AM will say goodbye to the Beach.
