Travel south of Tucson, and you’ll reach the Mexico-U.S. border and the dual cities of Nogales, Ariz., and Nogales, Sonora.
On the U.S. side sits a Class A FM serving both communities with a Spanish Adult Contemporary format branded as “Amor.”
The station is now changing hands.
JJS Media, led by Martha Patricia Ponce, is agreeing to sell KCKO-FM 107.9 in Rio Rico, Ariz., to Mario Gustavo de la Fuente and his De La Fuente Media.
The agreed-upon price is $700,030. A deposit of $69,970 has been made and is being held at Hunsacker, Putbrese & Trent P.C., as escrow agent.
There is no finder or broker associated with this deal, which involves 10% attributable interest to a Sonora, Mexico-based affiliation of de la Fuente.
Nogales is some 55 miles to the south of Tucson. As such, only FMs with a Class C facility atop a peak where West Hidden Canyon Drive ends can be heard in the border city.
