A Friendship Consolidation Of Three Licensees

A pair of AM radio stations in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, along with its FM sibling over the border in North Carolina, are being transferred to a broadcast ministry from three individual licensees devoted to bringing the word of Jesus Christ to radio listeners.

Call it a bookkeeping move.

For a combined price of $95,591, Friendship Cathedral Family Worship Center is agreeing to purchase WGPL-AM & WPCE-AM in Portsmouth, Va., and WBXB-FM in Edenton, N.C.

WGPL is being transferred from Christian Broadcasting of Norfolk, while WPCE is a deal involving Christian Broadcasting of Portsmouth. The licensee transferring WBXB is Edenton Christian Radio.

But, it’s not a typical transaction. In this case, each of the individual licensees are being absorbed by an entity led by Dr. Katrina Chase.

She happens to be the president of each of the three selling entities, and the deal signifies that the church she leads the business affairs for is taking on ownership of the stations.

WGPL is a Class B 5kw facility with 3 towers, while WPCE is a Class C with 1kw from 1 tower. WBXB is a 50kw Class C2 FM with a tower well to the south of Suffolk, Va., and the Norfolk metropolitan area. It is best-heard in Elizabeth City and Hertford, N.C.
