Across the state of Hawaii, Family Broadcasting Corp. has carved a commercial niche for itself by offering a slate of second-run programs “the whole family can enjoy watching together” — including classic episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and The Lone Ranger.
While over-the-air broadcasts are mainly associated a Honolulu-based facility, a satellite station in Hilo has served as a full satellite partner until now.
The situation will soon change, as that Big Island property has been sold.
Family, under former name LeSea Broadcasting of Hawaii, is agreeing to sell KWHD-14 in Hilo to Halepule Television LLC.
The transaction is valued at $150,000; a $50,000 escrow deposit has been made.
The buyer is a 51%/49% partnership led by by Treasurer Keith Mercer and President Thomas Burke.
What will KWHD be used for? Look no further than Hilo Pentecostal Church, which Burke is associated with.
This suggests the use of KWHD for religious programming.
The sale of this property follows LeSea’s divestment of the former KLEI, now Telemundo affiliate KSIX-6 and within the Gray Television operation in Hawaii.
