Dan Cates recently retired after a long and distinguished career, concluding his tenure as General Manager of Gray Television's CBS affiliate serving Charleston, S.C. We now know who will be taking over as GM for the station.

Longtime "bad boy" air personality Don Geronimo, who returned to Washington, D.C., from Sacramento to accept the morning show post at iHeartMedia's WBIG "Big 100," was fired on Friday after making on-air comments a day earlier about a Emmy Award-winning WUSA9 producer and reporter. Now, Geronimo has apologized for his disparaging remarks associated with "Barbie."

The CW Network is extending, and expanding, its network affiliation agreement with Hearst Television. The accord keeps the network in six markets where Hearst stations enjoy affiliation agreements, while a new CW affiliate for Hearst bows on Sept. 1.

The Media Ad Sales Summit is coming back to Fort Lauderdale in early November, and the event's producer, Matrix Solutions, has unveiled the event's agenda. Attendees will be able to take notes during panel discussions, keynote conversations, and a town-hall-style roundtable with media executives. "The agenda is focused on addressing the media industry’s biggest challenges and opportunities," Matrix says.

After problems surrounding a delayed disclosure of Urban One's 2022 earnings, the company is changing accounting firms. Urban One had been using BDO, but after a mishap around the accounting on MGM National Harbor profits, they are moving to Ernst and Young.

The Media Bureau of the FCC has officially completed the transition of Media Bureau filings and electronic records from the Consolidated Database System (CDBS) to the Licensing and Management System (LMS).

The awards were named for "Radio Wayne" Cornils, who devoted his life to increasing professionalism in radio.

Matthew W. Lightner in recent years has been an acquisitor of radio stations across Pennsylvania. The deals he's struck include AMs and FMs serving Altoona; WPHB-AM in Phillipsburg, Pa.; and a March 2023 asset trade with Jim Loftus. Now, Lightner is agreeing to purchase an AM with an FM translator serving Johnstown, Pa.

Andres Bichara in April 2019 gained attention for pulling the plug on "The Mighty 1090," serving San Diego, as part of a dispute over unpaid LMA fees. A simulcast of a Rio Grande Valley FM suddenly replaced the Sports Talk. Now, that FM in Texas is being sold.
