After Failed KCNC Goodbye, Greene Bids Farewell At ‘9News’

In May 2017, after several years at CBS News & Stations’ KCNC-4 in Denver, Ed Greene transitioned to a part-time role. It was a shift that was planned for more than a year, but that didn’t stop Greene from expressing his displeasure with the change in the local press.

Fast-forward to February 2021, when Greene “temporarily” succeeded Becky Ditchfield at the weather desk for crosstown KUSA-9, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate. Now, Greene has concluded his career.

“It’s my understanding that I’m just there helping them out,” Greene told Denver alternative weekly Westword in February 2021. “We’ll see how everyone is feeling,” he allows. “But right now, I’m having a lot of fun.”

That fun would last more than three years, following a five-year run at “9News” from 1996-2001.

Just before joining 9News for a second stint, Greene was on the radio, via iHeartMedia’s News/Talk KOA. A reduction-in-force initiative would end that role, leading Greene to venture into the world of podcasting; a podcast was produced for on-air broadcasts on KHOW-AM in Denver. He also became a spokesperson for Mintz Law Firm, a gig that concluded with his return to local television.

During Friday morning’s newscasts, Greene revealed that it would be his final appearance, and that he would be retiring.

Greene’s career in Denver began in 1972 at KIMN, then the leading Top 40 AM serving Denver (today it is KKSE-AM). Four years later, he joined the news team at then-CBS affiliate KMGH-7 in Denver, under McGraw-Hill ownership. Greene in 1981 went to KCNC-4.
