A TV Licensee Puts Assets On The Block

RBR+TVBR has learned that a Fresno-area owner of broadcast TV stations in such markets as Bakersfield; LaCrosse and Wausau, Wisc.; Beaumont-Port Arthur, Tex.; and Yuma, Ariz. has signed on with brokerage Hadden & Associates in a bid to find the right buyer for its assets.

A “Must Sell!” pitch is being shared by Hadden & Associates as it pertains to the broadcast TV stations assigned to My Central Valley LLC, a company led by Josh, Robert and Roxzan Castro.

It marks the end of an enterprise that saw John Castro speak with RBR+TVBR in November 2020 about launching KMSG “My53” in Fresno during the pandemic, and how the operation was seeking to overcome challenges associated with difficult timing.

Now, My Central Valley appears to be refocusing its efforts on KMSG while seeking a buyer or buyers for the following other properties:

  • KBFY-LD 41 in Fortuna, Ariz., serving the Yuma, Ariz.-El Centro, Calif. market
  • KUMJ-LD 23 in Beaumont-Port Arthur, Tex.
  • WZEO-LD 26 in La Crosse-Eau Claire, Wisc.
  • WRJT-LD 34 in Wausau-Rhinelander, Wisc.
  • KNXT-LD 53 in Bakersfield, which simulcasts KMSG at the present time

Hadden isn’t hiding the state of the stations’ finances. KUMJ lost $3.7 million in 2023; WZEO’s expenses were nearly six times the size of its total income in 2023.

What are the asking prices?

  • KNXT-LD is being offered for $950,000
  • WRJT-LD is being offered for $300,000
  • WZEO-LD is being offered for $300,000
  • KUMJ-LD is being offered for $500,000
  • KBFY-LD is being offered for $750,000

All inquiries are being directed through Hadden & Associates.
