POMPANO BEACH, FLA. — Of late, it has served as the originating station for “Oldies 95.3/96.9,” part of the True Oldies Channel-focused service run in Palm Beach County and northern Broward County by Vic Canales Media Group.

Soon, a change will be in the works for those two FM translators. The AM has been sold.

Radio Activa Media Group is agreeing to sell WWNN-AM 1470 in Pompano Beach to Shekinah Radio International.

A $675,000 sale price was agreed upon; a 10% escrow deposit has been delivered to the seller, led by President James Ospina.

Hadden & Assoc. was the exclusive broker for this transaction.

The buyer is led by Michelet Felix, who is based in Pahokee, Fla. Shekinah does not hold attributable interest in any other radio stations.

WWNN is a directional, 2-pattern Class B with 30kw daytime and 2.5kw nighttime, from four towers in the Inverrary section of Fort Lauderdale.

From 1963-1997, the station was known as WRBD, and was one of the region’s premier Black and Soul radio stations. FM competition led to a 1990s decline and format changes.

In May 2022, Vic Canales agreed to acquire WWNN and W237BD at 95.3 MHz and W245BC at 96.9 MHz for $1.45 million. The AM was transferred to Ospina in the subsequent months. Canales purchased the stations from Marc Paskin, who four months earlier acquired WWNN from Beasley Media Group.

While WWNN will be changing under new ownership, Canales told RBR+TVBR on Wednesday that “True Oldies South Florida” will continue on 96.9 MHz and 95.3 MHz, with coverage in South Palm Beach County and Northern Broward now using originating station WSFS-FM 104.3 HD3 per a lease agreement with Audacy Inc.

However, RBR+TVBR has also confirmed from Hadden & Assoc.’s Doyle Hadden that W237BD and W245BC are for sale. As such, the fate of 96.9 MHz and 95.3 MHz remains in question.

Not impacted are the 106.9 MHz/95.9 MHz FM translators offering the “True Oldies South Florida” programming to the northern half of Palm Beach County, which is fed by Hubbard Radio’s WIRK-FM 103.1 HD3.
