A Redo For A Rocky Mountain Alternative Sale

In June 2019, RBR+TVBR reported on the proposed sale of a 100kw FM serving the Grand Junction, Colo., market from high atop a mountain peak some two hours to the north.

The intended buyer: a wholly owned subsidiary of Allen Brill’s Western Slope Communications.

It turns out that deal never closed. Now, a new buyer has emerged for the facility.

Class C0 Active Rocker KMZK-FM 106.9, licensed to Clifton, Colo., is still licensed to Charles D. Hall and his Uinta Broadcasting.

But, that will soon change, pending FCC approval.

That’s because KMZK is now being spun to Get Smashed Radio Broadcasting Network.

The deal includes assumption of a Bureau of Land Management federal tower site lease agreement and is valued at $225,000.

A $60,000 escrow payment, less advance deposits from the buyer made to escrow agent Daniel Sam of $19,847.50, has been made. A $165,000 Promissory Note is being executed.

Serving as the broker in this transaction is Roger Rafson of CMS Station Brokerage in Pittsburgh, representing Uinta.

The buyer is led by Larry Grant, and is based in Marysville, Wash. He is a first-time buyer, Rafson says.

His acquisition of KMZK tops the $200,000 bid for the station from Brill, whose holdings include KZKS-FM 105.3, KRGS-AM 690, and KRVG-FM 95.5 in the Grand Junction market; and Montrose, Colo.-area stations KAVP-AM and KWGL-FM. Furthermore, the owners of Western Slope have attributable interest in Four Corners Broadcasting, with three FMs in Durango and KKDC-FM in Dolores, Colo., serving the Cortez area to the west of Durango.
