A Big Bet On A Super Investment In Spot Radio

The National Football League season is over, and former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, actor Henry Winkler and all of Chiefs Nation are celebrating the Kansas City AFC team’s second championship in four years.

Leading up to the “Big Game,” one big online wagering platform, today the owner of VSiN, opted to ramp up its spot radio activity in the hopes that those wishing to bet on the game would use its app, rather than any other choice.

That company is DraftKings, which finished the week ending February 12 as the No. 7 fully-paid advertiser using Spot Radio; RBR+TVBR negates all “iHeartRadio” activity as these spots are generally placed in house with no transactional dollars involved.

The DraftKings activity is perhaps the most noteworthy in the latest report from iHeartMedia-owned Media Monitors, and it comes on word that a Member of the U.S. House representing New York’s Capital Region has introduced legislation that would ban sports wagering advertising.

Ahead of Super Bowl LVII, Democratic House Member Paul D. Tonko introduced the Betting on our Future Act, which would ban all online and electronic advertising of sports gambling.

The NY State Broadcasters Association was highly critical of the bill and its potential negative impacts on broadcast station revenue.
