Cornerstone Says Goodbye To Key West Creation

There’s a Class A FM serving the southernmost city in the mainland U.S. that, until now, has been dedicated to “reaching the lost, discipling the saved.”

Now, this station is about to gain a new owner. But, the Christ-centered mission isn’t likely to disappear.

Based in Port Orange, Fla., Cornerstone Broadcasting came to life nearly 30 years ago, in October 1989, with the launch of WJLU-FM 89.7 in New Smyrna Beach.

Signal enhancements came in the next few years, followed by the acquisition of other radio stations. In 1998, the Beasley Corporation gifted to Cornerstone property, to help the broadcast ministry at it continued to grow.

In June 2011, with a cost “of only” $12,500, a 1kw CP was obtained for a new station serving Key West, Fla. Today, that station is WKWJ-FM 91.9, born in November 2013.

Now, Cornerstone is parting ways with its baby, and is selling WKWJ to Christian Radio Fellowship for $50,000.

This is the entity led by Bill Tidwell, and is the licensee of WAFT-FM in Valdosta, Ga.

Similar programming is expected to air on WKWJ.

A $10,000 deposit has been made by Tidwell and CRF.
