On Sept. 1, 2017, longtime Brown University-affiliated Alternative WBRU-FM in Providence, R.I., formally shifted to an online-only operation, thanks to the station’s sale to Educational Media Foundation.
It’s now a KLOVE affiliate with the calls WLVO-FM, and is surprisingly now the center of attention in a Notice of Violation sent to the prolific non-secular noncomm giant regarding interference concerns.
The Commission on May 17 issue the NOV to EMF following its investigation of a complaint from the Pawtucket, R.I., Fire Department regarding emissions tied to WLVO.
The Enforcement Bureau’s Boston Field Office on March 15 investigated the complaint.
What did a Boston-based Enforcement Bureau agent find? WLVO was emitting a spurious emission in the 72 MHz band that was not sufficiently attenuated to meet the required emission limits and was causing harmful interference to the Fire Department in the City of Pawtucket.
As such, EMF has 20 days from the date of the notice to explain what happen, and offer its remedial actions taken (if any) to the FCC.
The September 2017 purchase of WBRU gave KLOVE a 26kw Class B facility just west of central Providence, and a signal that covers all of Rhode Island and most of southeastern Massachusetts.
