Wednesday season finale 'Law-Order: SVU' solid 18-49

At 10 p.m. ET, the season finale of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.9/7 in adults 18-49, 9.0 million viewers overall) locked up the show’s highest 18-49 rating since February 2 and matched the top “SVU” result since the show’s season premiere on September 22, 2010.  


In total viewers, it’s biggest overall audience for “SVU” since January 5.  “Law & Order: SVU” is up 7 percent versus its year-ago season finale in 18-49 rating (2.9 vs. 2.7). 

Week to week, “SVU” grew by 21 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.9 from a 2.4).  Last night’s “Law & Order: SVU” won the hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and all other key demos.  “SVU” built on its lead-in by 222 percent in 18-49 rating and 210 percent in total viewers. 

From its first half-hour to its second, “SVU” grew in most key ratings categories, including increases of 7 percent in adult 18-49 rating (to a 3.0 from a 2.8), 6 percent in adults 25-54 (3.4 vs. 3.2) and 6 percent in total viewers (9.3 million vs. 8.7 million), while the competition on ABC and CBS declined half-hour to half-hour in all three categories.

In the 10:30 lead-in to local news, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” delivered a 26 percent margin of victory in the key news demo of adults 25-54 (with a 3.4 rating vs. a 2.7 for CBS’s second-place “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior”), up from a 7 percent margin during the prior half-hour (3.2 vs. 3.0). 

“SVU” was #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in the 10:30 half-hour in all key ratings categories.

From 8-9 p.m. ET, “Minute To Win It” averaged a 1.1/3 in adults 18-49 and 3.5 million viewers overall in a competitive hour opposite Fox’s “American Idol,” ABC’s “The Middle” and CBS’s “Criminal Minds” encore. 

“Minute” ticked off its highest 18-49 and total-viewer results in the Wednesday 8-9 p.m. ET hour since March 30. The 8 p.m. “Minute” is up week to week by 22 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.1 from a 0.9) and 14 percent in total viewers (3.491 million vs. 3.063 million).

At 9 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of “Minute To Win It” averaged a 0.9/3 in adults 18-49 and 2.9 million viewers overall in another competitive hour opposite Fox’s “American Idol,” CBS’s “Criminal Minds,” ABC’s “Modern Family” and CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” season finale.  From its first half-hour to its second, the “Minute” encore grew in all key ratings categories, including gains of 25 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.0 from a 0.8) and 18 percent in total viewers (3.1 million vs. 2.7 million).
