The CBS news anchor that instilled in all Americans a level of honest reporting and trust during the golden age of television passed away in his home in Manhattan surrounded by family members. Cause of death is said to be was cerebral vascular disease.


Cronkite set the standard for television journalism and was a broadcaster to whom many in the media first applied the title of “Anchorman.” When Cronkite signed off this last report on March 6, 1981 with “That’s the way it is” the estimated audience viewing his final on-air broadcast was said to be 36 million households.
