Vic Michael Sells in PHX, Adds In Central Pa.

While the Phoenix market is famous for its South Mountain tower farm, there’s another peak used by broadcast media as its transmitter home.

That’s Shaw Butte, a popular hiking site in north Phoenix. Here, an FM translator has been rebroadcasting a “relevant” AM’s Christian-themed programming via an LMA. A lease-to-purchase conversion is now underway.

The transaction gives Relevant Radio full control over K275CP at 102.9 MHz in Phoenix, which has a signal that covers the west valley cities of Glendale and Peoria, north-central communities including Paradise Valley, and much of the city of Scottsdale.

The seller is Vic Michael‘s Mountain Community Translators, which has been allowing Relevant Radio to use the facility to rebroadcast its KIHP-AM 1310 in Mesa, Ariz., a Class B two-pattern facility from 1 tower that across the 1980s was a simulcast partner of KZZP-FM 104.7.

The deal is valued at $80,000, and a $2,000 deposit has been made to Michael.

Serving as the legal counsel for Relevant Radio is Mark Denbo of Smithwick & Belendiuk.

While Michael has parted ways with the translator in the Valley of the Sun, he’s adding a FM translator in the town that’s home to the Little League World Series.

That would be South Williamsport, Pa., and in nearby Muncy W290CV at 105.9 MHz is being acquired by Mountain Community Translators from Family Stations.

And … there’s a Phoenix twist to the Keystone State deal. That’s because an option agreement appears in the asset purchase agreement that allows Family Stations to purchase Michael’s K298CK at 107.5 MHz in Phoenix, a 250-watt translator that has near-marketwide coverage. K298CK also uses Shaw Butte as its tower site.

A $65,000 purchase price for W290CV has been set, with a $13,000 downpayment already made.

The broker in the W290CV deal is Robert Branch.

Family Stations’ legal counsel in the Muncy transaction is Matthew McCormick of Fletcher Heald & Hildreth.
