Three inter-related Hispanic-focused media companies are consolidating their operations through a merger that will be led by José Villafañe — a move that is designed to create “a powerhouse in U.S. Latino media.”
Specifically, Nueva Network, Costa Media, and MLC Media are “aligning” content creation and distribution, radio station management and operations, and the digital networks and sales arms into a combined entity strengthens.
Nueva Network and Costa Media launched in 2021 as entwined entities under Villafañe, who had previously spent seven years in key sales roles at Entravision and earlier in his career served as National Sales Manager for the ambitious Spanish-language spoken word Radio Unica operation.
MLC Media predates Nueva Network and Costa Media and was founded in 2010 by Carlos Moncada.
While the newly merged entity will operate under De Novo One Media Group corporate name, it will do business as Nueva Network. Moncada will hold majority ownership and oversee business operations, finance, MLC Productions in the U.S. and in Latin America, and, importantly Costa Media’s local broadcast stations. Villafane will continue as Managing Partner and CEO.

Moncada commented, “By integrating content, sales, marketing, and local O&O stations, we’re not just streamlining operations—we’re setting the stage for exponential audience growth and revenue expansion. Jose’s vision, passion, and relentless energy for the industry are unmatched, and I have full confidence in his leadership as we build for the next decade.”
Beyond media, Moncada owns multiple restaurants in California and an entertainment company that manages and promotes boxing talent, including former World Champion Juan Francisco Estrada.
The merger is valued at approximately $100 million, Villafañe said.
The combination of the business comes ahead of a heavily promoted Nueva Network Radio Upfront presentation on March 5 in New York.
Villafañe commented, “This merger marks a pivotal moment for our industry. With De Novo One Media and MLC Media united, we can offer unparalleled creative solutions for our brand partners and agencies, expand our premium content, and maximize audience reach through radio and digital assets. More than a business deal, this is about two families coming together—West meets East, Mexico meets Puerto Rico. I’m honored by Carlos Moncada’s trust and excited for what’s ahead.”
