Since February 2014, she has served as President/GM of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises’ WNJU-TV, the New York broadcast property branded as “Telemundo 47.” As of today, she is no longer in the role.

Cristina Schwarz has stepped down from her longtime position, she shared via LinkedIn.

“I am thankful to the team that helped rebuild our station to be number one regardless of language and in Spanish,” she says of her nearly 12 years of accomplishments leading an operation that under her leadership became wholly integrated with WNBC-TV, the NBC O&O. Under Schwarz, WNJU also saw quick growth with a free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel and digital platforms.

Schwarz’s career includes nearly four decades of experience as a Hispanic marketing and media leader. In 1988, she became a VP/GM for the Univision Television Group, after serving as a sales associate representing WSUA-AM 1260 in Miami for Caballero Spanish Media and, after that, a stint at Hispanic marketing and advertising agency The Bravo Group.

In 2006, Schwarz would exit Univision for six years, returning in February 2012 to serve as a production and programming VP at Galavisión, its general fare cable TV network. This led to a June 2013 promotion to VP of Univision Cable Networks. She’d exit Univision a second time in early 2014, resurfacing as WNJU’s head.

“Throughout my business life there was always community involvement,” Schwarz added. “I supported many non profits and continue contributing, especially with the Hispanic Federation.” From October 1996 through April 2018, she was an active board member, serving in a volunteer role.

On a personal note, Schwarz noted that her father died in April at the age of 95; her mother turned 90 years old. “I have dedicated a lot of time traveling the world with my parents … Now I want to plan a few more trips with my Mom who wants to travel far away!!”

Schwarz added that she loves to work and hopes to have the opportunity “to collaborate in the future and support our Hispanic community and businesses,” noting, “I don’t want to leave anyone out so a heartfelt thanks to those who supported me throughout the decades in this industry. I learned so much from everyone around me. For those who challenged me —-thanks, because you helped me open my eyes and learn to move forward and overcome obstacles.”

Schwarz is a native of Santiago, Chile, and has studied in Cali, Colombia.
