Taking the digital leap

As locally-owned Christian outlet KPLE-TV Killeen, TX works to pay for its DTV equipment, GM Catherine Mason is preparing to make her first skydive this weekend as a fundraising stunt. Mason, by the way, is 81-years-young.

The Trinity Broadcasting Network affiliate has set a fundraising goal of $300,000 to pay for the digital transition. According to the station website, which features a Photoshopped picture of Mason in freefall, a little over half that has been raised. KPLE made the DTV switch-over on April 16th, but is still working on paying for the equipment.

To help with the funding push, Mason will become airborne on Sunday, May 24th, 4:00 pm, at the nearby Salado, Texas Airport, to make her very first skydive – a tandem jump with a skydiving professional.

“You’re never too old to step out in faith for God,” said Mason, who has managed KPLE for the last 16 years. “Our viewers have done so much over the years to keep Christian broadcasting going 24/7 in central Texas, and I am taking this ‘leap of faith’ to thank them and to challenge others to get involved,” she added.
