South-of-Seattle FM Giant Bought By Bustos

It’s a Class C FM with a booming signal licensed to the state capital of Washington that can be heard as far south as Astoria, Ore., and well into the Seattle-Tacoma area. Pending FCC approval, it will become the latest addition to the stable of stations owned by Amador Bustos.

Bustos Media has signed off on an asset purchase agreement that will allow it to acquire KXXO-FM 96.1 in Olympia, Wash., from 3 Cities Inc., a licensee led by David Rauh.

A $1.5 million purchase price has been agreed to by the parties, with Nancy Ory at Lerman Senter PLLC submitting paperwork in the FCC’s LMS for regulatory approval on behalf of the seller.

For Bustos, which is using the legal services of Dennis J. Kelly, a $50,000 escrow deposit has been made. It is being held by the seller’s broker of record, Kalil & Co.

Terms call for tower repairs, which are necessary and come with an estimated cost of $100,000. Bustos will handle this need.

Additionally, the KXXO.com website and the KXXO programming and marketing assets will be retained by 3 Cities and Rauh. This is inclusive of any production libraries and computers; music scheduling software leases; the current studio lease; and service marks associated with KXXO-FM, presently known as “Mixx 96.1.”

Bustos has served the Seattle market under his current Bustos Media LLC since 2005, and KXXO will join a group of stations comprised of KDDS-FM and KZGI-FM, which air “La Gran D” and are traditional regional Mexican; KZTM-FM and KZNW-FM “La Z,” a different take on regional Mexican; and KZLZ HD2, airing the Latin Urban “Urbana Digital.”

RBR+TVBR has learned that a Latin Contemporary format is in the works for KXXO.

“As college students in Olympia, Toni Holm and David Rauh dreamed of owning and running their own radio station. And, after a decade of trials and tribulations, they made it so.” KXXO “Mixx 96.1” went on the air January 16, 1990. Toni is the station manager and David is the General Manager.
