It operates a trio of FM frequencies on the reserved noncommercial band serving small communities between Eureka and Santa Rosa as the NPR Member for this swath of Northern California. Soon, it will have an added boost to its coverage area designed to give those in picturesque Willits a clear signal for “KXY&Z.”

Mendocino County Public Broadcasting, operator of KZYX-FM in Philo, Calif., and KZYZ-FM in Willits, Calif., as well as FM translator K201HR in Fort Bragg, Calif., is adding KLLK-AM in Willits and K282CC in Ukiah, Calif., to its stable of broadcast facilities.

The seller is Bicoastal Media, and it is selling the AM and FM translator for just $1,000. That said, KLLK & K282CC are silent under Special Temporary Authority at this time; they must resume operations by December 1.

Serving as the buyer’s legal counsel is Brad Deutsch at Foster Garvey.

It is not known what the owner of KXY&Z intends to do with KLLK and K282CC, as both KZYX & KZYZ can be received in Willits and Ukiah.
